Maureen and Laraine’s friendship blossomed almost one and a half years ago when Maureen moved into Beaumont Care at Kippa-Ring and became Laraine’s roommate. As a long-term local, Maureen wanted to stay close to her family and neighbourhood of 49 years when she needed extra care and support. She also liked the idea of having a roommate and someone close by to talk to.
“I didn’t want to be on my own anymore. Laraine and I have become good friends,” said Maureen.
“The friendships and the caring staff are the best things about living here.”
As an active member of the community and the president of three clubs in her earlier years, Maureen has found her niche running the bingo for her fellow residents. She also participates in craft activities, goes shopping and takes advantage of the many bus trips on offer.
“We recently went to Bribie and had fish and chips by the sea,” said Maureen.
“One of the best things about the outings is the warm welcome and hot cup of tea you get from the staff when you return. It really makes it feel like you are coming home.”
Laraine, who was a dressmaker, and crafted wedding cakes and pottery in her younger years, also enjoys living at Beaumont Care and having a roommate and friend to confide in.
“We get on well and always behave ourselves,” said Laraine with a cheeky grin.
“The staff really care about what’s important to you and help you to do those things. Everyone is friendly, and they look after you very well.”
Beaumont Care Owner, Linda Beaumont, said that understanding and meeting the individual needs of each resident is something that the staff are passionate about.
“We are all about providing warm-hearted care to residents and their families, especially in their time of need,” said Linda.
