To celebrate International Nurse’s Day on 12th May, Beaumont Care invites colleagues, residents and families to nominate a Registered Nurse or an Enrolled Nurse who will be Beaumont Care’s Nurse of the Year.

- Progression of Person-focussed Care by role modelling to colleagues
Antonia Evans is committed to the person focused model of care at Rothwell.
At all times Antonia Evans role models to staff, walking the walk & talk as she mentors staff during her shifts.
A motto she has used is we all need to “Rock & Roll “through the day with the residents.
It is Antonia Evans’s commitment to person centred care and setting the example through her leadership, support & mentoring of staff that the care has progressed from a task orientated culture to the care for our Rothwell residents being delivered around the personality and needs of the individual resident.
- Progression of strategies to minimize the use of restraints in the Facility
Nil physical restraint in use at Rothwell
Residents admitted to Rothwell require a secure environment-
Those residents who do not require a secure setting Antonia Evans will negotiate with residents & family alternative options.
Antonia Evans has been working closely with the Rothwell doctors to minimise the use of chemical restraints.
The Rothwell statistics relating to the use of psycho trophic medication has remained minimal.
- Progression of actions to enskill fellow RN/ENs and Assistant Nurses
Antonia Evans commences her shifts at 6am to provide support to the night staff and to maintain continuum of resident care.
Antonia Evans attends handovers to provide support & guidance to our staff.
During her shifts Antonia Evans works on the floor alongside the staff using every opportunity to enskill staff in all areas of clinical and care management, along with team building.
Antonia Evans uses incidents of deficits to educate staff and involve staff in identifying cause and encourages the team to identify solutions.
At all times Antonia Evans promotes a team culture and working together to identify strategies, solutions & opportunities to improve practice and care outcomes for the residents of Rothwell and the team.
Along with the support of management, Antonia Evans encourages & offers staff opportunities for individual responsibilities and professional development.

Antonia Evans was able to attend the April enthusiast meeting with Beverley Giles.
Antonia Evans has commenced to progress the person focused approach even further.
5. Describe ways in which this RN or EN has improved the lives of residents
When one sits & listens to the environment of Rothwell the norm these days is a very quiet & settled atmosphere.
Laughter – conversation and activity is very evident in the Rothwell setting.
Families have become very involved in the care and community of Rothwell.
Many a time laughter & tears are shared by family members.
Antonia Evans is very much the staunch advocate for the residents and will stand her ground e.g when Ambulance or Hospital staff question the need for a resident to be admitted & require medical intervention.
Families comment about the friendliness, care & rapport the staff have with the residents.
All this has been achieved through the leadership, role modelling and commitment of our clinical manager.
Antonia Evans’s ultimate desire! Antonia Evans tells the Rothwell staff that when the family leave the facility they know in their hearts their love one is being well cared for. They can leave with a peace of mind.

The team health, the wellbeing of our staff is promoted by Antonia Evans.
Antonia Evans will bring in cooking for staff once a week.
As the Rothwell team, practices, processes & environment has become more consolidated, Antonia Evans desire to build the health of our team further in creating opportunities for staff activities- ( fun)
Antonia Evans has given many very long hours of her time to progress Rothwell forward.
The Rothwell Service Manager is so grateful and thankful for Toni’s commitment, professionalism, her social & ethical standing and her desire to join the service manager on this major journey through many challenges and the changes required to provide our residents with optimal care, meaning & purpose in their individual lives.
